Enrollment Procedures

  • Overview

    To be considered for enrollment, interested families will complete an online Enrollment Application asking for general student demographic and parent contact information.  This Enrollment Application will provide an option to select campus preferences.

    In accordance with Utah Law, Syracuse Arts Academy shall enroll an eligible student who submits a timely application, unless the number of applications exceeds the capacity of a program, class, grade level, or the charter school.

    If the number of applications exceeds the capacity of a program, class, grade level, or the charter school, the charter school shall select students on a random basis, except as provided in Subsections (4) through (8).

    Utah Law has provided some exceptions to the rule in regards to enrollment priorities.

    According to 53G-6-502, a charter school may give certain enrollment preferences.  Syracuse Arts Academy has elected to give enrollment preference to the following applicants:

    • a child or grandchild of an individual who has actively participated in the development of SAA;
    • a child or grandchild of a member of SAA's Board of Directors;
    • a sibling of an individual who is presently enrolled in SAA;
    • a child or grandchild of a teacher or administrator of SAA;
    • a student articulating between SAA's campuses;
    • a student who resides within one mile radius of either of SAA's campuses; and
    • a child of a military service member as defined in Utah Code § 53B-8-102.
  • Priorities

    In the event the number of applicants exceeds the established ceiling, the priorities will be as follows:

    • Returning students of that campus.
    • Student of Founding Member Transfers
    • Student of Founding Member
    • Student of Board Member Transfer
    • Student of Board Member
    • Student of Teacher or Administrator Transfer
    • Student of Teacher or Administrator
    • Transfer Siblings (depending on window of request)
    • Transfer Students (depending on window of request)
    • New Siblings
    • Student who resides within one mile radius
    • Child of a military service member
    • New Students
  • Eligibility

    To be eligible for sibling preference, the student must be a sibling of a student currently enrolled.  See 62A-4a-101(33) Sibling “a child who shares or has shared at least one parent in common either by blood or adoption.”

    To be eligible with teacher or administrator preference, the employee must work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

    The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces four federal statutes that prohibit discrimination in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance from the Department of Education (ED). SAA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer, read our USDA Non-Discrimination Statement for more information.

  • Add a Sibling or Request a Campus Transfer

    Dear Parents, We are thrilled to have your student(s) return to Syracuse Arts Academy for the 2023-2024 school year.

    It is recommended that you use a computer to complete this process, not a mobile phone.

    We are excited to provide you with the ability to register your student(s) through our online registration process in Aspire. You are able to access registration through your own Aspire parent login account (not through your student's login account) and complete the registration & enrollment process for the upcoming school year. This should be completed by the deadline above.

SAA Enrollment

  • What is a lottery?

    A lottery is a system charter schools have in place to fairly choose students from a large pool.

    Since the number of applicants exceeds the established ceiling, students are selected by lottery. When a student is chosen, siblings of the applicant (within the same household) are also invited for admission, provided there are openings. Students currently admitted are given preference for re-enrollment. Siblings of admitted students are given preference relative to other applicants.

    SAA does not discriminate in its admission policies or practices on the same basis as other public schools may not discriminate in their admission policies and practices. See Enrollment for more information.

  • When can I enter my child into the Lottery for the new school year?

    Every year at the beginning of January, we open the lottery for the upcoming school year. We will begin re-enrolling our current student body first, followed by a sibling lottery. Siblings of current students receive preference. After we have enrolled the siblings, we will run the lottery for the remaining openings.

    Please refer to the “Enrollment" page for information regarding the date of the first lottery.

  • How long is the list?

    This cannot be determined due to the fact that the number of students enrolled in the lottery is constantly changing as people apply.

  • Where is my child on the list?

    It is not a waiting list, it is a lottery. The lottery will be run several times each year, and students will be randomly drawn as spots become available.

  • What is my child's chance of being accepted?

    This cannot be determined due to the number of students applying each day for a limited number of openings in the school as students move out. Syracuse Arts Academy may enroll a total of 1,753 students for the Local Education Agency (LEA) for grades K-9. The Antelope Campus may enroll 1,025 students in grades K-9 and the North Campus may enroll 728 students in grades K-6.

  • How often is the Lottery run?

    The Lottery for the fall is run the previous spring. After that point, it is run as needed. When we receive notification that someone is moving, we will run a lottery to fill the position. You will receive an email if your child has been offered a spot at our school. You will have at least 3 business days to decide if you want to accept/reject the open position.

  • When will I be notified of an open position?

    If your child is drawn from the lottery you will be notified as soon as they have been selected. You will be notified by email.  Parents/guardians will have at least 3 business days to accept/reject an open position when it is offered.

  • Is it possible for a position to open during the school year?

    Parents should consider in advance if they are willing to move their child after school has begun in the fall.

  • How will I know if my child has been accepted?

    You will receive a phone call or email. If you go on vacation, please be sure someone is able to check your messages or e-mail while you are away.

  • What if I change phone numbers or want to modify my enrollment application?

    If you need to update your personal information such as phone number, address, or e-mail address, or choose to withdraw your application, please use your confirmation number and log into the enrollment website to make any necessary changes.

  • Is there anything I can do to improve my child's chance of getting in?

    By law, the only way to receive preferential treatment during enrollment is under the following circumstances: (1) a sibling is already attending the school or (2) a parent is a founding board member of the school. Extra volunteer hours, special favors, or donations are not accepted in exchange for special preference.

  • Can I see the qualifications of SAA's teachers?

    Yes. Parents have the right to request and receive information on the qualifications of their child's teacher. If you have any questions or would like to know more, please contact the school principal.
